What I'm up to...

Nobody likes to think about crisis, but if you’re running an online community – free or paid – you can’t afford NOT to. I’ve recently supported four clients in navigating sticky situations with reputational risks and consequences. It’s stressful ... and pricey!

Don’t want to get caught unaware?

Come to Developing a Crisis Communication Plan for Your Community today at 5 p.m. Pacific inside The Secret to Thriving Online Communities.

Whether it’s handling negative feedback, managing conflicts, or responding to external issues affecting your community, having a solid crisis communication plan is essential. Let me help you plan for the worst, so you can protect yourself and your community during challenging times.

We’re in the final week of the Save Time, Sell More bundle!

If you don’t want extra emails about the bundle, click here, and I’ll do my best to exclude you.

This bundle is an interesting one, as are most things Erin Kelly does. In addition to founding MemberVault with her husband, Mike, Erin homeschools their kids, runs the MemberVault user community, and is a marketing genius. The fact that Erin wears so many hats makes her sensitive to the rate of return received on both her time and her efforts.

When she talks, I listen.

What makes this bundle different:

  1. Free
  2. Curated offers
  3. Mix of free/paid offers
  4. No affiliate commissions on sales

Difference #1: Save Time, Sell More is free

Traditional bundles charge consumers a fee for access to the included offers. This “pay to play” model leads to higher opt-ins of the individual offers inside the bundle. People feel like they have already paid for all of the offers, and they want to get their money’s worth. Likewise, a lot of business owners consider subscribers from bundles to be better qualified than free subscribers (more apt to buy again) because they already have money in play.

Erin took a different approach, making the bundle itself free and allowing participants to charge whatever they want for their individual contributions.

Difference #2: Curated offers matter

My first bundle experience was bad: I paid $100 before any upsells and almost every offer in the bundle was a glorified lead magnet. The worst was a selfie “course” (actually a 10-page PDF) with “game-changing” tips like posing with and without a potted plant to create a “library” of stock photos. I am not even exaggerating 🙄

But with the Sell More, Save Time bundle, Erin personally worked with each participant to ensure that what they were offering provided true value, was likely to appeal to the bundle’s target market AND could be delivered with relative ease.

Erin suggested the 2024 Community Content Calendar as my contribution because she knew it was already selling well. Erin actually suggested I offer one month for free and add on the rest as an upsell but I didn't have time to manage that. So I’m offering the whole year for free with an upsell to pre-order the 2025 version for just $27.

Difference #3: The mix of free and paid offers

I like that people who sign up for the Save Time, Sell More bundle aren’t paying anything upfront and still have the opportunity to snag some good deals

Discounts on offers within the bundle range from 30%-100%, which means there really is something for every price point. I’ll tell you my favorite free offers tomorrow in a bundle-specific email.

Difference #4: No affiliate commissions on sales

I’m not against affiliate commissions. I have affiliate accounts with all sorts of programs and services. But whenever commissions are tied to major promotions with several referral partners, things get petty.

You start seeing a lot of desperate emails and social media posts focused not on why you should GET the offer but why you should USE MY LINK to get the offer.

By contrast, the incentives for the Sell More, Save Time bundle are based on the number of sign-ups each participant gets. If you sign up for the bundle, you advance my ranking – whether you spend a dime or not. That means I can feel good about the number of people who opt in, and neither of us has to feel badly if you sign up using someone else’s link instead.

If you haven’t looked at the bundle yet, you can do so here.

My conversion rate so far is pretty low. Out of 160 visits to the bundle info page using my link, only 6 people have signed up.

But I'm not doing this for prizes or accolades.

I’m participating because I think it’s a great way for you to check out some helpful offers, no matter what stage of business you're in. I’m sending another email later this week to tell you more about my favorites.

Whether you're new here courtesy of the bundle or a longtime VIP, thank you! You're helping to make sure we all use social media to bring people closer together.

Keep thriving,

Tonya
